What Engine Removal, Refit & Testing Involves
Removing and refitting an engine is a skilled, labour-intensive process that requires careful attention to detail. At Mercedes Garage, we follow a structured procedure that ensures every component is correctly handled and every system is thoroughly tested before your vehicle leaves the workshop.

Mercedes-specific considerations: Engine bay layout varies significantly across models – from the compact A-Class to the spacious Sprinter. AMG engines have more complex plumbing and electronic systems. Certain models, like the SLS AMG with a mid-engine layout, require special lifting equipment. Our technicians are trained on all Mercedes platforms and use the correct tools for each job.
Pricing & Labour Time
Part of our rebuild or replacement service – from £2,200
Removal, refit, and final testing are included in our fixed-price quotes for engine rebuilds and replacements. For standalone removal/refit work (e.g., to replace other components), we provide a separate quote.
Every job is quoted individually – contact us for a precise estimate for your vehicle.

Our Removal, Refit & Testing Process
- 01
We receive your vehicle, confirm the work required, and carry out an initial inspection.
- 02
We disconnect all systems, drain fluids, and safely lift the engine out using appropriate equipment.
- 03
The engine is either rebuilt (if part of a rebuild service) or the replacement unit is prepared.
- 04
We lower the unit into the bay, reconnect all systems, and refill fluids to manufacturer specifications.
- 05
We perform initial start-up checks, measure oil pressure and compression, and run the engine at various RPMs.
- 06
We road-test the vehicle to verify real-world performance, check for leaks, and complete a final sign-off.
