ABOUT THE MERCEDES CLK 63 AMG ENGINE
The CLK 63 AMG represents the pinnacle of the CLK range, and it uses the M156 6.2-litre V8 — the first AMG-developed naturally-aspirated V8 with a high-revving character and significant power output. Fitted to the C209-generation CLK from 2002 to 2009, the M156 is a standalone unit that's distinct from the M113 V8 used in the non-AMG CLK models. Its known wear points — camshaft adjuster and head bolt wear over time — are well-documented within the AMG community, which is why we address them as standard on every rebuild. The CLK 63 AMG is no longer in production, but we continue to rebuild and replace engines for every one still on the road.

M256 (R190, 2023–present)
A 3.0-litre inline-six petrol mild-hybrid engine fitted to the CLK 63 AMG from 2023 to present. The M256 features an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and electric auxiliary compressor, making it a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every M256 rebuild.
