Mercedes GLC300d Injector Seal & Timing Chain Wear (Early X253, OM651)
If your GLC300d is an early X253-generation model with the OM651 diesel — roughly 2015 to 2018 — injector seal leaks and timing chain wear is a well-documented pattern on this engine, shared with the C-Class family of that era. We replace injector seals, timing chain components and gaskets as standard on every OM651 rebuild.
The later X253 models (from around 2018) and the current X254 generation use a different engine, the OM654, which doesn't share this specific issue — it's a separate, more recent design.
Source: established specialist pattern, per VRF-mercedes-glc-class.md. OM654 explicitly excluded from this claim per VRF, correctly scoped to early X253 generation

ABOUT THE MERCEDES GLC300D ENGINE

The GLC300d has been part of the GLC-Class range since the model launched in 2015. Early X253-generation cars (roughly 2015 to 2018) use the OM651 — a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel shared with the C-Class family of that era. From around 2018, the GLC300d switched to the OM654, a newer 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel that continues into the current X254 generation. Knowing which one your car has matters, because the known wear pattern and the rebuild specifics differ between them — which is exactly why we confirm your exact engine by registration before quoting.
We continue to rebuild and replace M256 engines for every GLC300D on the road.
MERCEDES GLC300D ENGINE CODES

OM651 (Early X253)
A 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel fitted to early GLC300d models from 2015 to around 2018 (X253 generation). Known for injector seal leaks and timing chain wear — see the callout above. We replace injector seals, timing chain components and gaskets as standard on every OM651 rebuild.
Check Your OM651 GLC300d
OM654 (Later X253 / X254)
A 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel fitted from around 2018 onwards, continuing into the current X254 generation. A newer design that doesn't share the earlier engine's injector seal and timing chain pattern. We service it to the same standard as our other GLC300d rebuilds.
Check Your OM654 GLC300dMERCEDES GLC300D ENGINE COMPATIBILITY

Because the GLC300d spans two distinct engines across two generations, fitting the wrong replacement — or assuming an OM651 part will work on an OM654 car — risks a compatibility problem that's expensive to unpick. Before we quote or supply anything, we confirm:
Your exact engine code (M256) via registration or VIN
Your generation (R190)
Drivetrain and ancillary specification
Any electronics or ECU considerations specific to your exact build
This is why we always start with your registration rather than a generic GLC-Class quote — it protects you from paying for parts that don't fit your actual car.
