Mercedes GLS450 Oil Leaks & Coolant System Wear (M256 I6)
The M256 is a sophisticated 3.0-litre inline-six with an integrated starter-generator and electric auxiliary compressor — a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every M256 rebuild.
Because the GLS450 uses a completely different engine family from the V8 M178 fitted to the GLS 63 and GT 63 S, parts and rebuild specifications don't cross over between them.

ABOUT THE MERCEDES GLS450 ENGINE
The GLS450 has been part of the GLS range since 2016, spanning two generations under the same badge. The earlier X166 generation (2016–2019) uses the M276 — a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with mild hybrid assistance introduced during the GLS's early years. From 2019, the X167-generation GLS450 switched to the M256, a newer 3.0-litre inline-six petrol mild hybrid that's a different unit entirely, not an evolution of the M276. Knowing which one your car has matters, because the components and the rebuild specifics differ between them — which is exactly why we confirm your exact engine by registration before quoting.
