Our engine inspection and assessment service provides a complete, transparent evaluation of your Mercedes-Benz engine. We follow a structured process to determine the condition of every component and recommend the most appropriate course of action.
- Initial visual check – external inspection for leaks, overheating signs, and visible damage
- Complete disassembly – strip the engine down to its core components: block, crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder head, and valvetrain
- Critical measurements – block deck flatness, cylinder bore wear, crankshaft journal condition, connecting rod straightness and big-end bore
- Crack testing – dye-penetrant (visible/fluorescent) and magnetic-particle inspection on machined parts to detect surface and sub-surface cracks
- Reusability determination – assess each component against manufacturer specifications; decide which parts can be reused, which require machining, and which must be replaced
- Quotation and repair plan – provide a detailed, fixed-price quotation for the required rebuild or replacement, with a clear roadmap of work

Our Step-by-Step Inspection & Assessment Process

Vehicle arrives at our workshop. We perform a thorough external inspection, document any leaks, overheating signs, or visible damage.

Engine is stripped down to its bare components – block, crank, rods, cylinder head, valvetrain, and all ancillary parts.

All critical dimensions are measured: deck flatness, bore wear, journal taper and ovality, rod straightness and big-end size.

Dye-penetrant or magnetic-particle inspection on key components. Each part is assessed against Mercedes factory specifications.

We compile all findings into a detailed report. You receive a fixed-price quotation for the required rebuild or replacement.
- 06
You approve the plan, and we move forward – either with a rebuild (including in-house machining) or, if needed, a replacement.

Do you machine the block and crank in-house or outsource it?+
We perform all our own machining in-house at our Billericay workshop. This includes cylinder boring and honing, deck resurfacing, align honing, and crankshaft grinding. We do not outsource any critical operations.
How long does the whole rebuild process take after assessment?+
The total journey from assessment to completion can range from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on parts availability and the scope of machining required. Most rebuilds are completed within 3–5 working days once the parts are sourced.
