Mercedes GLE580 Oil Leaks & Coolant System Wear (M256 I6)
The M256 is a sophisticated 3.0-litre inline-six with an integrated starter-generator and electric auxiliary compressor — a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every M256 rebuild.
Because the GLE580 uses a completely different engine family from the V8 M178 fitted to the GLE-Class 63 and GT 63 S, parts and rebuild specifications don't cross over between them.

ABOUT THE MERCEDES GLE580 ENGINE
The GLE580 is the flagship non-AMG V8 in the GLE-Class range, introduced with the V167 generation in 2019. It uses the M176 — a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with mild hybrid assistance, a design shared across several Mercedes-Benz models of this era, including the S580. The M176 is a different unit from the AMG M177 found in the GLE63, though they share a common architecture. While the GLE580's M176 doesn't have the same well-documented known issues as the AMG M157/M177 family, it's a complex high-performance engine that benefits from specialist rebuild expertise.

A 3.0-litre inline-six petrol mild-hybrid engine fitted to the GLE580 from 2023 to present. The M256 features an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and electric auxiliary compressor, making it a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6.
