ABOUT THE MERCEDES GLS600 MAYBACH ENGINE
The GLS600 Maybach sits at the top of the GLS range, using the M177 — a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 shared with AMG performance models across the Mercedes line-up. It was introduced with the X167 generation in 2021 and remains the flagship engine for the Maybach-badged GLS. Unlike the mainstream GLS variants which use six-cylinder diesel or petrol units, the GLS600 Maybach carries the full V8 performance architecture, with the same wear patterns that AMG V8 specialists are familiar with across the M176/M177/M178 family.
We continue to rebuild and replace M256 engines for every GLS600 MAYBACH on the road.
MERCEDES GLS600 MAYBACH ENGINE CODES
M256 (R190, 2023–present)
A 3.0-litre inline-six petrol mild-hybrid engine fitted to the GLS600 MAYBACH from 2023 to present. The M256 features an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and electric auxiliary compressor, making it a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every M256 rebuild.
