Mercedes Vito 115/116 CDI Injector Seal & Timing Chain Wear (W639, OM646)
If your Vito 115/116 CDI is a W639 generation model with the OM646 diesel engine — that's the majority of the 2003–2014 production run — injector seal leaks and timing chain wear are well-documented patterns on this engine, shared with the Viano of the same platform. We replace worn timing chains and injector seals as standard on every OM646 rebuild, along with the gaskets.
The older W638 generation uses a different engine family (OM601/OM611) and wasn't offered as a 115/116 CDI, so this issue is correctly scoped to the W639/OM646 application.

The Vito 115/116 CDI was produced during the W639 generation from 2003 to 2014, using the OM611 and OM646 2.2-litre diesel four-cylinder engines. The OM646 in particular is shared with the Viano of the same platform and is known for timing chain and injector seal wear as a well-documented specialist pattern. The Vito 115/116 CDI is no longer in production, but we continue to rebuild and replace engines for every one still on the road.
