Mercedes S580 Oil Leaks & Coolant System Wear (M256 I6)
The M256 is a sophisticated 3.0-litre inline-six with an integrated starter-generator and electric auxiliary compressor — a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every M256 rebuild.
Because the S580 uses a completely different engine family from the V8 M178 fitted to the S-Class 63 and GT 63 S, parts and rebuild specifications don't cross over between them.

ABOUT THE MERCEDES S580 ENGINE
The S580 is the flagship V8 variant of the W223-generation S-Class, introduced in 2021 as a replacement for the S560. For its first four years of production (2021 to 2025), it used the M176 — a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with mild-hybrid assistance, the same engine family used in the preceding S560 and Maybach S580. From the 2026 model-year facelift, Mercedes introduced a running change to the M177 Evo, a more powerful 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crank and revised hybrid system. The exact production changeover date hasn't been confirmed yet, so if your S580 is a 2026 model or later, we'll confirm which engine you have by registration before quoting.
